MY FIRST MONTH IN METU
I think the first month in the university is an adaptation process for everybody. Getting used to the campus, classmates ,lessons etc. are involved in this process. When I came to METU for the registration, I didn't like it at all and I thought I would never be able to get accustomed to it. As there weren't as many students as nowadays, it looked like a village. But day by day I started to know METU campus. I roamed every part of the campus with a map in my hand. Now I can even give descriptions of the routes on campus to the people.During my first days I had difficulty in talking to anyone. So I felt lonely and didn't want to go anywhere. But now I know and like everybody in my class. We can talk to each other and laugh together. Yes,I can say that I am used to METU but I can't deny my friend Müge and my family's support.I'm lucky to be in the same class and dormitary room with Müge who was my classmate in the high school too.She is always next to me when I am sad or in confusion and my parents call me everyday to ask if everything is okay. Now for me the most difficult part of the university is the lessons. In the beginning they were easy but now every one of them is getting more and more difficult to cope with. I am writing essays, reading books with small letters, studying grammer and memorizing words. It's very different from high school. Another challenge I face mostly is the time of the lessons. Most of my lessons start at 8.40. I am staying at the dormitary.I get on the rings.I wake up at 7 but I can't understand why I am always late to the lessons. I have to solve this problem. .In this one month I realised that METU offers a lot of opportunities to the students. For example, I am a member of METU Without Barriers and Couple Dances Club. In METU Without Barriers Club, I am learning sign language which is very useful. These clubs are very important for me because they help me meet different people and improve myself. Another good thing is that everything we need is on the campus and we can access to them easily. In this way METU fulfils my expectations. I can say that being a student in METU is an honour.Because once you come here you are not only a student of METU, but also a member of METU family.

I also share the same ideas with Pınar because of course we witnessed the same difficulties. I also had some problems, but like her I had a friend from my high school too,and as Pınar says it was really an important support for met o know that I wasn’t alone in METU. However, I wasn’t as lucky as Pınar since I was not brave enough to join selection of Couple Dance Society. Now I regret not having participated in it as I believe that if I had tried, I’d have succeeded in getting into group. Indeed, I am very angry with myself. Anyway, today I agree with Pınar on the fact that thanks to God, I am a member of METU family, and I’m here with my friends.
