WHAT IS THE MYSTERY OF THE TITANIC?

The Titanic which is the most famous ship off all time is known as a tragedy but it is still a mystery how it sank. Are you sure that it was really an iceberg that caused the Titanic to sink? Now,I will tell you the real story of it…

Morgen Robertson who was an American was born in 1861.He was a seaman while he was young. Then, he was interested in jewellery and became a jeweller in New York .One day, he read a story and decided to be an author. His first story was sold for 25 dolars. Then he earned 1000 dolars from other ten stories he wrote. In 1897, on a winter night he planned to write a new story which was about a sea adventure.

HIS DREAM WAS THE WRECK OF THE TITAN

In his mind’s eye, there was a huge and unsinkable ship.In the story the theme of which is love, the characters board the ship and go to America from England. They fall in love each other in the most luxuries ship in the world but   face an unpleasant surprise. The ship crashes into an iceberg and sinks.Everybody on board dies. This is the subject of the book.Robertson started to write his story and named it after FUTILITY or THE WRECK OF THE TITAN.

Therefore, Robertson fell into depression and underwent a psychological treatment in a hospital. In March of 1915,three years after the calamity of Titanic, Robertson died of heart attack in a hotel room. However, noone noticed that his prophecy came true…

HIS PROPHECY CAME TRUE

When Titan was published, almost noone was interested in it.
14 years later, the biggest and most luxuries ship, Titanic, departed from the Southampton harbour in England to America. It was so huge that people thought that it was unsinkable. But on 14.04.1912, an iceberg which suddenly appeared in the heavy fog caused Titanic to sink and a lot of people to die.

WHAT ELSE DID MORGEN GUESS ABOUT THE TITANIC?

* The ship in the story of Robertson,Titan, started the voyage from the Southampton harbour
and after 14 years Titanic departed from the same harbour.

* The height of Titan was 248 metres.
The height of Titanic was 252 metres.

* Titan weighed 70000 tons
   Titanic weighed 66000 tons.

* Both of the ships had three propellers.

* There were 3000 passengers in each ship and these passengers were mostly rich and famous people.

* The giant ship in the novel sank because of an iceberg in North Atlantic.
14 years later, Titanic sank on the same coordinates crashing into an iceberg which was just like the one in the novel.

* Neither ship had enough lifeboats. In his book, Robertson wrote that there were 24 lifeboats in Titan. The real Titanic had 22 lifeboats.

*In the wreck of Titanic  1513 passengers drowned or got lost. In the novel, 1500 passengers drowned

NOONE REALİZED THE GREAT PROPHECY

When it was published, almost noone bought and read the story of the Titan. Therefore Robertson fell into depression and underwent a psychological treatment in a hospital. In 1915, he died of heart attack in a hotel room as an unsuccessful author.
Noone was interested in the fact that he died three years after the calamity of the Titanic and noone was curious about how he guessed the Titanic wreck 14 years before.
Until 1980 when some researches into the Titanic started, noone remembered him. However, now his soul must be in relief…

THE MEMORIES OF THE PEOPLE WHO SURVIVED THE WRECK OF THE TITANIC

‘’On the night before the wreck,we were on deck with my wife. She gave me a hat with an emblem of the    Whitwstar Company (the owner of the Titanik) on it.Suddenly , we saw a star on the sky break into  pieces. My wife said that something bad would happen to us...’’     Kamarot Arthur Lewis

‘’Although my father was very excited,my mother was very depressed. That was the first time I had seen her crying. She was desperate and continuously saying that nothing was going well.I was only seven and had never seen a ship in my life up to that day.It was very big and every one was very excited. We boarded the ship.My father told my mother to have a rest and calm down but she was awake all nigt long.Only I was able to survive the wreck...’’    Eva Hart

‘’We left our school in the lunch break and went to the harbour to see the departure of the giant ship,Titanic. It left the harbour while everybody was clapping enthusiastically. At that time, the old man next to me nodded his head said ‘’ Oh,dear! There is no hope for these poor people...’’  He was right. Those poor people  never came back... ‘’  Lois Brown Jacobs

SHERLOCK

Detective serials are frequently broadcast but the most well known one is undoubtedly Sherlock Holmes written by Arthur Conan Doyle.BBC started a new version of Sherlock Holmes in July 2010.What makes it different from the other Sherlock Holmes serials is that we can see what modern Sherlock Holmes can do in modern London ,which worried most of the fans in the beginning.Watching Sherlock Holmes using technology to uncover the mysteries instead of the clasic one in the stories of Arthur Conan Doyle could have disappointed the viewers. But, contrary to the bias, Holmes adapted to the modern times and lost none of his characteristics.
Another point that draws attention about the serial is its script writers. The script of the new version,Sherlock,is written by Steven Moffat,Mark Gotissve and Stephen Thompson who are the script writers of Doctor Who at the same time.According  to Moffat, Sherlock is not a clasic detective serial.Unlike the others, it has also scenes full of action and fun.

                                                    WHO IS SHERLOCK HOLMES?
The world famous detective Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character in the stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle. He is the most famous one amongst the detectives. He can uncover all the mysteries only by observing the details. He can make a deduction even from the handwritings, footprints and cigarettebutts. He uses morfin and kokoin to keep his mind busy when he doesn’t have a problem to solve. He is good at fencing and playing violin. He has never fallen in love in his life.

Writing about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Doyle was inspired by Doctor Joseph Bell whom he met while studying medicine at the university.Doctor Bell was famous for his observations about the people and events. He also had an ability to  solve the problems benefiting from these observations. While watching Sherlock, you can see that from every detail he makes a deduction like Bell and you can’t help saying that ‘’No man like him exists.’’(I say so whenever I watch it.)

One day, Doyle wrote a letter to his mother saying that he couldn’t spare the time to write about different subjects because of Sherlock Holmes so he was thinking of writing a last story in which Holmes was going to be killed. His mother was very angry with him because she wanted the adventures of Holmes to continue.According to a rumour, after Doyle wrote his story in which Sherlock  was killed, he faced so many reactions that he had to revive Sherlock in another story.

Sherlock is one of the most amusing serials I have watched so far.In the serial,Sherlock helps the police uncover the mysteries about the murders in England with his best and only friend James Watson whom he meets in the first episode.James is an old military doctor and suffers from traumas coming from his experiences in the military service.I love the way Sherlock talks to Watson and other poor detectives.Because it is the source of humour in the serial.Whenever Sherlock finds a clue,he looks at them as if to say ‘’You are all stupid!’’ It is very enjoyable to watch how Sherlock makes fun of them.

The scene which I like most in this episode is the one where Sherlock Holmes meets Watson.Watson is a doctor who got back to London because he was wounded in the Afghanistan war. When Holmes said ‘’I think, you has just come from Afghanistan...’’ he was very surprised.A few weeks later,Holmes explained to him how he made that observation: ‘’Here is a man who is used to the hospitals.I think he is a doctor but his posture shows that he is a soldier at the same time.So he must be a military doctor. It seems that he is coming from a hot country because he has a weather-beaten face but the colour of his wrist is lighter. So the natural colour of his skin isn’t so dark.He looks tired,he must have faced a lot of difficulties or got over a serious illness. He can’t move his left arm easily. It may be wounded. In which country with a hot climate can an English doctor face difficulties and hurt his arm? Definitely Afghanistan...’’

HERE IS THE MOST CHARISMATIC LEADER AND MURDERER IN THE WORLD

Manson is the most special murderer in the world. The murders in 1963 made him notorious. However,he never used any pistol or dagger. All these murders were committed by other people. This is the reason why he is so popular all over the world. He has so poverfull an effect on his follovers that hey are ready to fullfill Manson’s commands like a slave.
I chose this subject because you will see how evil things a lonely and badly grown-up person can do and at the same time what logical reasons he has for doing these evil things.
Manson had a very terrible childhood. His mother was a scarlet woman and according to Manson, one day she wanted to exchange him for a bottle of beer. When he was six, his uncle forced him to go to school with a skirt on him saying that he had to learn how to fight like other boys. Therefore his early life was full of beating and exploitation.
At 9, he started theft. While he was a teenage his life a like a circle consisting of crime, arrestation and escape. In an interview, while talking about those days he said ‘’To be honest,I was nothing but a stupid thief who cannot steal anything without being caught.’’  At  18, he forced his roommate in prison for livata threating him to stab. In 1954, he was released but  spent his 13 years in different prisons for different crimes. In 1967, he was released again and when he was 33 he had spent most of his life behind the bars.
Then he started to live in an old farmhouse outside Los Angeles with his followers who were his friends in the beginning. He was continuosly talking about Adolf Hitler and a nonsense theory named Helter Skelter(Great War). According to this thory, the black people will rise in revolt against the White people and kill all of them.Only Manson and his special followers will survive and they will take control of the world. To provoke this war, Manson commanded his followers to kill some of the white people who were popular. On 09.08.1969, five followers from the ’Manson family’ broke in the house of famous director Roman Polanski and killed his pregnant wife Sharon Tate who was an actress with other four people. Moreover they wrote ‘PİGS’ on the walls with the blood of the victims before leaving.
The murders caused a total panic in Los A ngeles.Manson was arrested. His trial in 1970 was just like a circus. He appeared with a sign ‘X’ scraped on his forehead. At the end of the trial, he and four friends of his were sentenced to life- long prison.
Now he receives thousands of letters from his fans. One day when  a reporter told him that he had many fans and they were looking forward to the day he would be released , he said ‘’ I don’t think i will be willing to be released. The foods here are wonderful. Moreover , i am busy with my new book and letters’’

Every time Manson speaks, he tells that he had a very terrible life. The reason why it is somay result from his mothers attitudes to him.Because one day while he was talking about his mother, he says ‘’One day, when I was a little child we were sitting in a pub.The waiter who had no child liked me so much that he asked my mother to sell me to him in a funny way.But my mother said that it was okey if she he gave him a bottke of beer. After drinking her beer, she left the pub without taking me.Next week my uncle found and took me home.’’ With this quatition we can understand that his mother did not like him and he looked for the affection he was not given by his mother in other things.Perhaps he didn’t even look for...
At 18, while he was in prison he improved his ability of speaking and learned how to impress people easily with a stşmulating speech. After leaving prison he succeeded to attract a lot of people especially young and beautiful girls.Even if he never used any pistol or knife, he caused 35 people to be killed. In the beginning these 35 people were chosen randomly amongst the hippis hitchhiking.Because Manson thought that hippis were unnecessary people in the world.Even if he does not accept, yes, he is a murderer.
In the video, the reporter says that he has no expression of remorse. His only answer was that ‘Remorse for what?’ Apparently he is still not aware of the fact that he caused a lot of people to die for nothing. He thinks that he has gone through so evil things which are too much too bear that now he is taking his revenge from the vile world and the people. He says ‘’ i have done nothing i feel guilty about.İ have done nothing i’m ashamed of.Maybe i’m ashamed for not doing enough.I should have killed for 500 people, then i would feel better now.’’ Yes,he hates people but never thougt of killing them by himself.Maybe what makes him the most special one is the fact that he can effect people and  even make them kill other people for no reason as i said before. In every interview, he denies that he is a murderer. ‘’Why do you call me murderer? I didn’t kill anyone. I don’t need to kill anyone’’ Yes , he doesn’t need to kill anyone because he has followers to do that evil work instead of him.He believes that he is innocent but it is strange that he doesn’t behave in a way that other innocent people do.He is very relaxed. He says that he is happy to be in prison. ‘’I find more real the world i’m in.’’
At the end of the video, he says ‘’ Believe me, if i started murdering people there would be none of you left.’’ He is very sure of himself in that he can make his followers to kill all the people. He knows that he has that power. He can be right because as you can see it is impossible not to be affected by his speech, words and tonnation.
